A crazy inaugural season in the Northern Buckeye Conference got a little bit crazier on Thursday night as league leader Lake squeaked by Otsego, 67-65.
With six seconds left and the game tied, senior Josh Tantari pushed the ball up court and found a wide open Jayce Vancena underneath for the buzzer beating lay up. Vancena was mobbed by his teammates on the court as the Otsego fans looked on in stunned silence.
"I was just trying to...get open, look for an open shot, maybe get fouled, hit a couple free throws, but luckily they didn't guard me, just got an open shot, made the lay up," said Vancena, who finished with 11 points.
The Flyers had a 12 point lead in the 3rd wiped away in the final minutes. Junior A.C. Limes led the charge for the Knights, pouring in 24 points.
Lake senior Rashad Smith led all scorers with 29.
Also in the NBC, Eastwood topped Elmwood 55-45, Rossford defeated Lake 63-51 and Fostoria topped Woodmore 72-69 in double overtime.
