In a few months, Michael Ebert will be out on the football field as a freshman tight end for the University of Toledo.
On Thursday night he was leading Sandusky Perkins High School to a 67-61 Division II regional semi-final win over Columbus Brookhaven inside Savage Arena.
The Perkins Pirates had a one point lead at halftime but went to the 6'6'', 240-pound Ebert early and often in the third quarter.
Ebert finished with 20 points and 12 rebounds and that included a 60-foot heave at the end of the third quarter that banked in at the buzzer.
"I just saw the clock was low," said Ebert. "[I] just chucked it up there [to] see what happens. I mean, there's not much more to it than that."
That shot gave Perkins an 11 point lead.
Brookhaven started knocking down three point shots in the latter half of the fourth quarter to get within four but could get no closer.
Perkins will play Elida, who beat Cleveland Benedictine 77-72 in overtime, on Saturday at 7:00 at UT.
