Most coaches will tell you revenge is not a good motivating factor for victory.
Whether it was or was not, Maumee Valley Country Day definitely got some satisfaction out of beating Gibsonburg 75-53, on Tuesday night.
The win avenged MVCD's only Toledo Area Athletic Conference loss of the season, a 46-43 defeat back on December 9 to Gibsonburg.
It also pulled the Hawks into a tie with the Golden Bears for first in the TAAC.
After Gibsonburg's Logan Jones put-back Gage Beaber's miss at 3:33 left in the third quarter, the game was tied at 37 apiece.
That's when the Hawks took off.
Led by senior Julius Turner, who scored 14 of his 18 points in the quarter, MVCD went on a 20-3 run to close out the third.
"It's very important," said Turner. "It puts us in a tie for first place. (That's) something we've wanted since we were young.
Elsewhere, in the Northern Buckeye Conference, Genoa stuns Eastwood 52-42.
That loss knocks the Eagles out of a tie for first place in the NBC as Lake takes over the top spot after beating Elmwood 45-42.
