Otsego boys top Eastwood, Archbold and Evergreen girl's win

Otsego junior Ryan Smoyer scored 17 points on his 17th birthday in a win over Eastwood.

The first season of boys basketball in the Northern Buckeye Conference has been anything but boring.

Lake defeated Genoa 64-62 at Owens, while Otsego defended home court with a 66-60 win over Eastwood. The Knights were led by junior Ryan Smoyer, who poured in 17 points on his 17th birthday.

"My mom teaches for them [Eastwood], so it's even an added incentive to beat them and then they knew it was my birthday. It's fun to get a win against a crowd that knows you and they were rooting for me, they're no foes," Smoyer said.

"He's been hobbling around on a bad ankle and he's been playing through it like a tough guy, like coach wants him to and he had a great game here tonight on his 17th birthday," said Otsego Head Coach Jim Bostdorff.

On the girls side, Archbold remained perfect with a 59-31 win at Wauseon and Evergreen defeated Swanton 43-13.
