Whitmer football gives back

With the holiday season in full swing, 'tis the season to give back to the community. The Whitmer football program is leading the way.

It began one year ago when head coach Jerry Bell took over the program. He wanted to get his team involved with community service, so he required each football player to complete a certain number of service hours.

Senior Marcus Elliott began volunteering at the Cherry Street Mission back in August, and was so moved by the work, he talked to coach Bell about putting together a donation drive for the homeless this winter.

Whitmer partnered with the Toledo Area Alliance to End Homelessness (TAAEH) and has been collecting blankets, socks, coats, hats and undergarmets to donate to those in need.
