After spending more than five years working as a sports anchor and reporter, Jim Nelson is returning to his roots as a news reporter.
Jim arrived at NBC 24 in February of 2015 after spending the last three years in Fargo, North Dakota. Throughout his career, he has covered general news, politics and major sporting events.
From 2011 to 2014, Jim was the sports director at Fargo's FOX affiliate after working as a weekend sports anchor at the ABC affiliate in Sioux Falls, South Dakota. Prior to beginning his career in sports, Jim was a news reporter and anchor at the same Sioux Falls station.
While he has made the transition out of sports, Jim remains a huge sports fan, eagerly awaiting Minnesota's next pro championship which. He recognizes that it could be a while.
Jim grew up in the Minneapolis suburb of New Brighton, where he was first drawn to television news. He attended Southwest Minnesota State University in Marshall, MN, where he was a starting offensive lineman on the Mustang football team. He holds a degree in Speech Communication: Radio/TV.
