16-year-old murder suspect to be tried as an adult
TOLEDO, Ohio (WNWO) -- The teenager accused of shooting and killing a Toledo pizza delivery driver will be tried as an adult.
A Lucas County Juvenile Court judge ruled on Monday, that 16-year-old Machello Jackson's case will be transferred to the adult court system.
"There is probable cause to believe that, in fact, Machello Jackson did commit both the aggravated robbery and the murder," said Judge Connie Zemmelman.
Toledo Police Department detectives gave their testimonies in court during the hearing, revealing more information about the incident.
"He's telling her give him the money and eventually he says he shoots her," said William Goodlett, a TPD detective.
28-year-old Sadari Knighten was murdered while making her final pizza delivery of the night last month.
Detectives said Jackson claimed he shot her during the robbery because he thought she was reaching for a weapon, but that wasn't the case.
"It was a BB gun, a pellet gun, in a nylon holster," said Goodlett.
And the money that Jackson stole, was less than a dollar.
"I asked Mr. Jackson and he said he received 75 cents," said Goodlett.
However, Sadari's mother, though mourning, said she forgives the juvenile for his senseless act.
"It was emotional, but we're both hurting. She's hurting, I'm hurting, but I have forgiven her son and I told her if there's anything I can do for her, we'll do it," said Laverne Knighten.
And she has a message for Jackson.
"I love him, and I forgive him, but he took a part of me so I just want him to think about why he's doing time and think about what he did and hopefully he can get his life together."
