180th Fighter Wing takes to the night skies
The 180th Fighter Wing is flying night exercises for much of this week, and NBC 24 got a behind the scenes look at flight operations on the base in Swanton.
We followed the Ohio Air National Guards as more than 30 crews members prepared for Tuesday night’s practice.
The National Guard has 20 F-16 fighter jets on hand that are used for multiple missions.
“It includes everything from the air-to-air phase where we do anything from dogfighting up to defending a point on the ground all the way to an air-to-ground mission, whether that be close air support or striking a target behind enemy lines,” says Capt. Pete Fritz of the Ohio Air National Guard.
The 180th Fighter Wing supports global missions at both federal and state levels.
