Advocates for a Clean Lake Erie show support for Toledo mayoral and council candidates
Advocates for a Clean Lake Erie (ACLE) announced its "Clean Slate for Clean Water" movement in support of local political candidates concerned about Lake Erie.
The organization sent questionnaires to candidates asking if they'd support efforts urging the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) to deem part of the lake an impaired watershed. Those who said 'yes' were invited to Cullen Park on Wednesday for the "Clean Slate" announcement.
"These are candidates who know what the issue is and they are not afraid to speak their mind," said ACLE Coordinator Mike Ferner. "We think that with them in office we'll be able to get Lake Erie cleaned up a lot faster than at the current rate."
ACLE has been urging the EPA to mandate a cleanup of the lake since March 2016.
