Annual homeless luncheon serves more than 400
Toledo, Ohio (WNWO)-- Every year, there is one day in Toledo when the underserved become the guests of honor.
The 21st annual homeless luncheon took place at Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Cathedral, serving more than 400 meals to the homeless population, underhoused and underserved.
Nearly 40 volunteers gathered from across the city to make it happen from a range of different organizations including: The City of Toledo Neighborhoods division, Police, firefighters local shelters and more.
"We partner with the food banks," said Organizer Bonita Bonds, Admin services Commisioner with the city of Toledo, "We partner with all the shelters and feeding programs, they provided all of the food ."
As much as it's about feeding people, it's also about adding dignity and kindess.
Participants were able to recieve a hot meal, along with acess to a free health clinic, and free haircuts and manicures from Paul Mitchell the School.
"Ithink it's actually pretty aweosme that they do this for people," said Barbara Jackson.
But as much as it helps people in need, for those serving like Toledo Police Officer Sandy Ceglirek, she also get something back--gratitude.
"They are absolutely wonderful. They're very thankful. The peolpe have been wonderful."
