TOLEDO, Oh. (WNWO) — Local veterans who are in need of dental care are in luck thanks to one area dentist.
Hires Dental Care announced their "Stars, Stripes & Smiles" event will take place for the seventh year providing free dental work to veterans. The event is scheduled for May 13, from 8 a.m. until 4 p.m. It is first come first serve.
Hires has provided more than $133,000 worth of free dental work to 565 veterans since the event began in 2010.
"There is a need in this country to improve and expand dental care for our veterans," said Dr. J. Eric Hires. "Many of these men and women fall outside the VA's criteria for dental care, and even though they can receive free treatment during our event, that is only one day and not a solution for long-term oral health."
While waiting for dental treatment, veterans will be able to enjoy free food and refreshments, games, and a raffle. Free health screenings will also be provided by ProMedica.
Veteran employment services and the Dental Center of NW Ohio will also be available to provide assistance.
Hires Dental Care is located at 3951 W. Sylvania Ave. Guests must park in the ProMedica lot, 3909 Woodley Rd.
