Assessment of St. Anthony completed for Lucas County Land Bank
The Lucas County Land Bank will be getting some answers on St. Anthony Church in the coming days.
The WR Meyers Company inspected the property Thursday afternoon.
They specialize in assessing the maintenance of steeples and towers.
The land bank tentatively accepted the Catholic Diocese's offer to donate the church earlier this week, only if restoring the building is reasonable.
Despite the church missing it's pews and stair railings, the company's owner said the steeple was extremely stiff and strong.
"We're hoping they can find a new use for it. It certainly has a lot of character and is built like a fortress," said WR Meyers Company Owner, Bill Meyers.
The land bank was also looking for area leaders' to pledge help and support by signing a document.
They claim to have received several responses, and expect to make a final decision on the church next week.
