Children hospitalized after chlorine leak at Catholic Club
Five children and two adults have been hospitalized after a chlorine leak in downtown Toledo.
It happened Thursday morning at the swimming pool inside of the Catholic Club on Jefferson Avenue.
According to Toledo Fire Chief Luis Santiago, an abundance of chlorine entered the pool from a nearby tank.
"There were five kids in the water at the time. Lifeguards had witnessed and observed what seemed to be chlorine out of the discharge ports in the pool, it was yellowish in color," said Chief Santiago.
Jefferson Ave had been closed between 15th and 17th Streets, but has now reopened.
The Toledo Lucas Health Department is investigating the cause of the leak and says the pool will remain closed until the problem is fixed.
"We were told it was eight parts-per million at one test, you really need to get out of the pool at 10," said Health Commissioner Eric Zgodzinski.
