Toledo, Ohio (WNWO)-- Schaedler Enterprises, a construction rental company in Toledo, says for the past two weeks crooks have struck overnight stealing batteries out of semis, cranes and various other equipment.

The company estimates between equipment and work hours lost they've lost around $8,000 dollars.

"Some of the bigger batteries are worth two, three hundred bucks a piece. New at the scrap yard they might get ten dollars for them," said John Schaedler, dispatcher with Shaedler Enterprises.

"The time that we spend replacing them and finding things with missing batteries is worth more than they cost."

For any future thieves trying to get away with batteries, they say they have a plan.

"We're gonna build a wall out of shipping containers and pre-cast concrete around our perimeter and flood lights, motion detectors and sirens and alarms."

Schaedler Enterprises also told NBC 24 all new batteries purchased will be marked with the company's name, infrared tape, and gps trackers.
