Former Otsego football star fatally shot in robbery

A former Otsego football standout was killed last week during a late night robbery at a Northeast Ohio drive-through convenience store.

Arron Agler, 29, died at Akron General Hospital after being dropped off for treatment of a gun shot wound to the chest late Thursday, Jul. 9. He was pronounced dead at 12:30 a.m. Friday, Jul. 10.

The former Michigan State University football player robbed the Brew Thru Beverage store in Barberton around 9:30 p.m. Thursday, according to Barberton Police. Agler was shot by the store clerk before jumping into a getaway car and fleeing with an undisclosed amount of cash.

Police say Dennis Williams, of Tallmadge, was driving the red getaway car. Williams was located and arrested over the weekend. Police say he has prior felony drug convictions.

Agler was quaterback for the Otsego Knights from 1997-1998.
