Kevin Hines speaks to BGSU about how to combat mental illness

Kevin Hines speaks to a packed Bowen-Thompson Student Union Theater on how to battle mental illness (WNWO).

One man is using his experience of jumping off the golden gate bridge to address mental illness.

Growing up, Kevin Hines struggled with depression and tried killing himself by jumping off the famous San Francisco bridge back in 2000. He's one of only 37 people to do that and live.

Tonight, he shared his story by talking with students at BGSU about his struggles with depression and advice to those who battle it.

"I'm very grateful for every moment I get to spend with students, or even staff, or anybody that is willing to hear this message because they're giving me a chance share my truth and we get to help somebody else stay here."

Hines also spoke with students at Bowling Green High School and Penta Career Center on Tuesday, and will do the same Wednesday.
