The strings are being tightened as the Toledo International Youth Orchestra is preparing for their trip to perform in Cuba this June.

The TIYO is an orchestra made up of musicians between the ages of 12 and 21. Thirteen schools are represented from eleven districts in northwest Ohio. The group is said to be one of the first youth orchestras to travel to Cuba since travel restrictions were lifted last year.

TIYO Release:

The mission of TIYO is "bridging cultures through music." To achieve this mission, the group welcomes musicians of all racial, ethnic and religious backgrounds. The orchestra's repertoire includes music that represents cultures from around the world. The group performs at multicultural events throughout the community.

The non-profit group is asking for donations through crowdfunding in an effort to offset travel costs, estimated at $150,000. Donations are tax-deductible. To donate, click here.
