Lucas County sheriff department officials say a deputy was injured in an early Tuesday accident.

Captain Matt Luettke says a call came in 4:30 am. for reported early morning vehicle theft.

OfficerJon Leach was patrolling in the area when he saw the vehicle in question.

Authorities say it was an unidentified pick up truck.

Leach reportedly got out to make a stop when the vehicle turns and takes off at a high rate of speed.

The pickup truck ended up striking a police cruiser responding to the call at Nebraska and McCord in Springfield Township.

Deputy Craig Barth was the driver of the cruiser.

After the accident occurred the three occupants of the truck fled.

One was arrested and the search for two others continues.

Barth was taken to a local hospital where he was treated and released for minor injuries.

The group in question is believed to be in a stolen vehicle.

Luettke adds the suspects may be possibly involved in other thefts in Lucas County.

The investigation is continuing.
