Man believed to have stolen purse from 86-year-old arrested, charged

Phillip Strahota (Lucas County Jail)

The man accused of stealing the purse from an elderly woman while she was grocery shopping in west Toledo last month is behind bars Friday.

Court documents indicate Phillip Strahota, 34, was arrested on Friday after a search warrant was served. Strahota was charged with five counts of theft with purpose to deprive.

Court records indicate Strahota stole a purse from an elderly woman at the Kroger located on Jackman Road on Aug. 24. Records show the victim had $500 cash, a prepaid cell phone with a value of $450, a pair of prescription eyeglasses valued at $200, and credit and debit cards.

Two more charges were filed against Strahota stemming from an apparent 2012 hit and run.

Bond was set at $21,000. The court case was continued until September 23.
