Toledo, Ohio (WNWO)-- One local preschool is celebrating 50 years. Olivet preschool in Sylvania was founded 50 years ago in 1967 as a Christian nursery school by Virginia Wiese, a member of Olivet Lutheran Church.

The actual building stood ten years before the preschool was founded.

During the first year, there was only one class, but now the school has grown to 5 classes with 7 teachers.

The preschool is actually attached to Olivet Lutheran Church, which is a newer building because the original burned down in a fire.

"I'm not quite sure how many years the church itself has been located here but it has been added onto and remodeled and the preschool has seen it through all those years,"said school director and teacher Jennifer Crooks.

They've even won best of Sylvania award in the preschool category. The school prides itself on keeping with it's original mission to keep parents directly involved with their kid's education.

If you're interested in registering your child, registration begins in mid January.
