Summer meal programs wind down
TOLEDO, Ohio (WNWO) -- As the summer comes to an end, so does the summer meal program.
The Connecting Kids to Meals organization served roughly 200,000 meals over the last two months.
The program fed children ages 1 to 18 at 135 sites across four counties in Northwest Ohio.
"The most important thing is that we're able to reach so many kids who during the school year rely on their meals that they get at school," said Wendi Huntley, Connecting Kids to Meals president.
"Now we know that we can help make sure that they're getting at least one, but in some instances two, healthy meals everyday."
The average age of the kids they serve is 9.
And the kids'say their favorite food is walking tacos.
