Toledo Police Offers Virtual Ride-Along with Canine Unit

Police Conducting Virtual Tour

On Tuesday Toledo Police social media followers will get a virtual ride-along with the Canine Unit.

Twitter users can check in with the department @toledopolice or follow the hashtag “#ridealong419.”

Instagram users can follow @toledo_police as updates will be posted to Instagram Stories.

The Canine Unit virtual ride-along follows two others that occurred late last year.

One involved the Gang Task Force. The other with a Field Operations afternoon-shift unit.

The series of virtual ride-alongs is one of the many ways the department is seeking to further engage with the community.

The Toledo Police Canine Unit currently consists of one lieutenant, two sergeants, and seven patrol officers.

Seven canines specialize in narcotics, while the remaining three specialize in explosive odor detection.

Nine of the canine teams are certified for patrol function and odor detection. One is a single purpose canine certified in odor detection alone.

In 2017, canine officers responded to 10,215 calls for service and were deployed 2,836 times.

As a result of their deployments, the canine teams were responsible for 838 arrests.

The tour takes place from 2:30 p.m. – 10:30 p.m
