Toledo Public Schools plan for dangerous weather
TOLEDO, Ohio (WNWO) - All eyes were on the weather Thursday, and that includes school administrators. Toledo Public Schools said each storm is different, but they have a system when it comes to deciding on delays and cancellations.
The district has crews on the roads by four in the morning checking conditions. After going over those conditions, transportation officials always make the call by 6:00 a.m.
They see if buses can make it through and also consider students who have to walk.
"We are neighborhood schools, we have a lot of walkers,” said Jim Gant, TPS Chief of Staff. “A lot of the side roads can be an issue. The main roads might be clear, but side roads are not."
TPS has a similar protocol for canceling sporting events. They typically make that call after deciding on classes.
