Toledo Walleye ready for Kelly Cup run
The Toledo Walleye will begin their quest for the Kelly Cup Friday night, right here in Toledo.
It's never been done before in a Walleye uniform, but Head Coach Dan Watson thinks his team is ready to chase after a Kelly Cup title.
"I'm really happy with the progress we made this week and the excitement and energy that's out there on the ice."
It's been quite the season for the Toledo Walleye. They own the best record in the Western Conference, giving them home-ice advantage throughout the first three playoff rounds.
They'll take the ice Friday in the Huntington Center. They host the Indy Fuel at 7:35 p.m.
"Yeah, I'm beyond pumped, especially to see the crowd here come alive," said Defenseman Jared Wilson.
The matchup with the Fuel has been good to the Walleye this year. So far this season, they are 8-1 against Indy.
"So we're looking forward to it, almost a new season if you will. But we're excited to say the least," exclaimed Goalie Pat Nagle.
Win or lose Friday night, one thing is for certain, The Pond will be rocking.
"Unless you're out there playing, unless you're out there feeling what that crowd does for us, it's almost indescribable. Just because if we get the people out of their seats, whether it's a big hit, a big goal, a nice play, whatever the case may be, they certainly give our guys energy, and our guys feed off that. I believe that I feel it on the bench myself coaching. So we're very happy and thank you for all the support," said Coach Watson.
