TOLEDO, Ohio (WNWO) -- There's a new institute in Toledo teaching mindfulness.
The Toledo Mindfulness Institute was started by a University of Toledo professor.
Jay Rinsen Weik teaches mindfulness courses at the university, but wanted to open it up to the public after seeing such an interest from students.
Certified teachers will lead the courses, with a number of different exercises like mindful walking and meditation.
The class meets once a week for six weeks, to teach students how to train the mind to be in the present moment and to help better manage daily stresses.
"Most of the optional stress is actually a result of us not wielding our minds skillfully, and it turns out that one of the most important factors to skillfully wielding the mind, is to actually train and develop the ability to be present in the moment as the moment actually is," said Jay Rinsen Weik, the owner and founder of Toledo Mindfulness Institute.
