The Ability Center is teaming up with the Toledo Lucas County Public Library for a new inclusive book campaign.

Disability Representation, Education and Awareness in Media, or DREAM, aims to ascertain that books by, for and about people with disabilities are available in schools.

These books address the experience of growing up with a disability, victories in the movement and social opportunities.

A list of recommended books and a toolkit will be made available for classrooms participating in an upcoming reading challenge for disability education.

Participating schools will include:

  • Fairfield Elementary
  • Holloway Elementary
  • Lake Erie West Educational Service Center
  • Perrysburg Schools
  • Swanton Schools
  • Toledo Public Schools
  • Washington Local Schools
  • Waterville Primary
  • Westside Montessori
  • Whiteford Elementary
  • Whitehouse Primary

Each county library branch will have copies of the books.

One book, "Awesomely Emma: A Charley and Emma Story by Amy Webb," is being sponsored by the Toledo Museum of Art's Belonging and Community Engagement Department to tell a story about a young wheelchair user going on a field trip to an art museum.
