About 40 million tons of electronic waste is thrown out every year, only 12.5% of which is done through recycling. E-waste builds up to 70% of toxic waste in landfills, yet all of it could be recycled instead.
But there's more at stake than the environment when discarding electronics. Personal data is also at risk, even in devices that have been wiped.
AIM Ecycling is the only R2 certified e-recycler in northwest Ohio. Residents can drop off their electronic waste at the facility Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. at 5656 Opportunity Drive.
